12/09/09 - Pinewood Pumas
1-1 Binfield Jets
A fine September
morning saw the Jets travel to Pinewood for the opening fixture of
the season. There was only one change to the Jets team this season,
Matthew joining in place of Sonny who has signed for Hawley.
The Jets had the better of the first 10 minutes and took the lead
through a clinical finish from outside the box by Mark. Oskar
brought the ball out of defence well throughout the half and there
was some good passing by the Jets midfield of Joel, Alex and Aidan
as we continued to enjoy the greater share of possession. Both Eddie
and Cameron showed good control and made some neat turns up front to
try and increase our lead but good defending coupled with our final
ball letting us down on occasions meant we were unable to score
again. Just before halftime Pinewood broke clear of our
defence but Matthew made a great save from the striker.
The second half was more evenly balanced in terms of possession but
the Pinewood keeper was certainly the busier, making fine saves from
Eddie and Mark before excelling himself with a tip over the bar from
a shot by Joel. Midday through the half Pinewood equalised
from a corner and even though there were further chances at both
ends the game finished 1-1. Ellis remianed strong at the heart
of the defence throughout the match and this was an impressive debut
by Matthew in goal, displaying very good kicking and distribution
skills.
An
excellent match played in a great spirit against a very good
Pinewood team!

Binfield Jets 6 -1 California Royals

26/09/09 -
Binfield Jets 1 -1 Winnersh Rangers Lions
Team: Aidan
(Captain); Alex, Cameron, Ellis, Joel, Mark, Eddie, Oskar, Matthew
A fine
It was a bright sunny
morning. The crowd basked in the late summer weather in short sleeves.
Everybody went into the game knowing the two teams would be equally
matched so feelings were tense. Joel demonstrated his skilful footwork
to get past five Winnersh players and have a shot on goal, but it just
skimmed over the top of the net. Winnersh then put the pressure on,
but the Binfield defence was looking firm. Mark and Eddie showed us
some excellent passing, culminating in Cameron hitting a 40-yard
screamer just past the post. As Winnersh stepped up their attacking
pace, Joel ran back the full length of the pitch defending
brilliantly. Binfield’s defence continued to be firm with an
excellent clearance from Aidan down the line to Eddie. Aidan later
played a great cross into the box and Oskar headed it brilliantly,
only missing the goal by a whisker.
After the first fifteen
minutes, against the run of play, Winnersh made a break and scored a
goal. Shortly afterwards, Joel passed the ball up to Aidan who passed
it onto Eddie who neatly finished it off straight into the net, taking
the score to 1-1. Winnersh then increased its pressure on Binfield.
With good defending from Ellis and an excellent block by Matthew, the
ongoing Winnersh attempts on goal were thwarted.
Half Time 1-1
At the beginning of the
second half, Winnersh went for a long shot on goal, just slightly
overshooting the crossbar. Another attack on goal followed in rapid
succession, keeping Matthew on his toes. Matthew stayed focused and
was proactive in saving several attempts on goal. Oskar and Alex did
some very good defending as Winnersh kept the pressure on.
Binfield were awarded a
free kick following a foul. Joel went for goal and it very nearly went
in. We then saw consistently better play from Binfield with several
more shots on goal. Joel passed the ball into Alex who then had a shot
on goal, just skimming the side of the net.
Winnersh then had a free
kick following a hand ball, allowing Ellis once again to demonstrate
his great defending. Shortly afterwards, Eddie seized an opportunity
and had an excellent run down the pitch with an accurate shot on goal
– great save by the Winnersh goalkeeper.
Final score 1-1
Man of the
Match – Ellis – excellent defending.

Binfield Jets 4 - 3 Hawley Raiders
Team: Aidan; Alex
(Captain), Cameron, Eddie, Ellis, Joel, Mark, Matthew, Oskar
A chilly morning greeted
the players as they prepared to take on Hawley Raiders again. The last
encounter had gone comfortably in favour of the Raiders – was today
going to be the Jets day?
Both teams started with
some confident play; the larger pitch helping to encourage a more
fluid passing game. First blood went to Hawley after only 5
minutes. Down 1-0, the Jets responded. Eddie hitting the post after a
fine run up the right wing. Joel followed up with a searing shot which
was just saved by the Hawley keeper. Undeterred, the Jets persisted
attacking the Hawley defence. 15 minutes into the match, a fine
through ball from Cameron found Eddie with just the goal keeper to
beat. A gentle move to the left and Eddie placed the equaliser in the
back of the net.
By now the Jets had the
bit between their teeth. Shots at the Hawley goal were coming fast and
furious but not finding their target. Finally, an excellent header
from Joel found the back of the net.
Going into half time,
the Jets were up 2-1.
The second half started
with a determined Hawley on the offensive. The combination of Ellis’
solid defence and Matthew’s trustworthy keeping skills ensured that
they were to be denied. Five minutes into the second half and the Jets
responded putting Hawley under pressure. A corner from Aidan sailed
past the goal mouth but with no one around to finish the cross. This
was followed by a solid run from Alex up the right wing followed by
another fine cross. Again, no one was able to complete the move.
Finally, ten minutes in and Aidan found his target putting the Jets
comfortably into the lead. With renewed confidence, a fine pass from
Oscar was struck home by Eddie bringing the score to 4-1, a
comfortable lead.
With just 5 minutes
remaining, everything seemed to be going the Jets way. However, Hawley
had other ideas and had not given up the battle. Keeping pressure on
the Binfield defence, Hawley found their target and brought the score
to 4-2. Within a minute Hawley had struck again bringing the score to
4-3. The Jets’ solid lead had been eroded. With little time left,
Binfield steadied their nerves and once more went on the offensive. A
cross from Eddie to Mark was struck firmly at the Hawley goal but just
went over the bar. Much to the relief of the Binfield fans the final
whistle was blown. A fantastic match played in great spirit by both
teams.
Man of
the match was awarded to Eddie.

- Finchampstead 1 - 1 Binfield
Binfield took to
the field in their change strip of blue, playing uphill in the first
half.
Matt made an early
save. Oskar and Ellis were defending solidly. There was
a good passing move between Aidan, Alex and Joel.
Finchampstead played mainly on the break, but the Binfield defence
stood strong. Finch scored against the run of play with a long
shot and a lucky high bounce. Binfield soon hit back with an
excellent passing movement between Joel and Eddie. Eddie
scored with a good finish. Binfield continued to press.
Alex and Oskar were defending well, when the fast Finch strikers
broke. Mark cleared from a dangerous corner.
Half time 1-1.
Binfield started the second half on the attack. However,
they were finding it difficult against the crowded Finch defence.
The final ball wasn’t quite there. Aidan made some good runs
down the wing. Cameron cleared in defence. Chances were
limited on both sides. Finch came close in the middle of the
half – but overall Matthew had few real shots to save.
Binfield finished strong, looking for the winner – and Joel saw a
good shot hit the post as the clock ran out.
In the end, a 1-1 draw against a competitive Finch team.
A battling performance despite the Halloween Disco the previous
night!! Capello does not have this to contend with!!

- Binfield Jets 4 -
2 Ascot United Hurricanes
First Half
The Hurricanes came
from Ascot not liking the bright sunny day. They weathered
the early storm as the
Jets attacked early on, but it was a flood on the pitch that came
to the Hurricanes
help as the ball suddenly became stuck, stranding Captain Matt and
they took the lead. It
was their keeper in the eye of the next storm as Mark curled in
a
high centre and lightning
reactions from Oscar put the ball into the net for the equaliser.
The clouds lifted on our
performance as Joel meandered through their defence,
one - twoing, not once
but twice, two - fouring with Eddy to put the Jets firmly in charge
3 - 1. Then a great save
from Oscar's shot, but the Hurricanes weren't blown out yet and
pulled one back for 3 - 2
at half time.
Second Half
They got second wind
after half time but Ellis was a rock in defence, then after some
pinball football Aiden
hit a thunder bolt of a shot to restore the two goal lead. The
Hurricanes were in
depression as Cameron was bought down, Drogba - esque in the
box. However Ascot kept
pouring forward, but it was Alex who hit the post next, and with
relief the final whistle
went. A most exciting match and no more Hurricanes this
season.
Final score : 4
- 2

Woodley Saints 0 - Binfield Jets 2
On a chilly December
morn the Jets took to the field without their 'keeper Matt who had
been struck down with illness overnight. Eddie 'the cat' volunteered
to take the green jersey and the match got underway with the Jets
playing some nice 1-2s in and around the box and then first Joel hit a
post and then he saw a left foot screamer well saved by the keeper.
The ball was holding up
in muddy conditions but the Jets were trying hard to keep the ball
moving and great runs by Cameron and then Alex nearly resulted in what
would have been a well deserved goal. But Woodley had their chances
and great tackling back by Mark, Oskar and Ellis and a fine save by
Eddie kept the score at 0-0.
With half time
approaching the Jets turned on the pressure and the penalty box
resembled a pin ball table with efforts from Cameron, Aidan and Joel
being deflected blocked or saved. It was all getting too much for the
anxious parents!
With Eddie handing over
the green jersey Alex 'the I thought my parents should suffer a little
more agony than the others' volunteered for the second half.
The game restarted and
the Jets continued to press using the pace of Eddie to get behind the
defence. Again there were deflections and last ditch defending and
only a great save prevented Eddie from opening the scoring.
Then on the break
Woodley had a couple of half chances but great tracking back by Oskar
and a crunching tackle by Mark averted the danger. Then the Jets went
into overdrive and again Aidan, Joel, Cameron and Eddie had excellent
chances but the Woodley defence held firm. Eddie was then one on one
but his goal bound effort was clawed away and then seconds later his
shot whistled over the bar.
Surely it wasn't going
to be 'one of those games' and then as if the script had been written
Woodley started to exert some pressure. The Binfield parents held
their breath as first Ellis then Oskar then Joel thwarted chances but
it was Alex who palmed away the best chance and the sigh of relief
could be heard in the car park two miles away!!
Then up the other end
Eddie again saw his shot saved and Joel had a double effort blocked
and then deflected for a corner. The corner was cleared and the ball
hoofed up field. It was collected by Oskar who fed Joel who in turn
fed Eddie and he then put Aidan in to race through and fire past the
helpless keeper. Just rewards!!
Still Ellis had work to
do at the back and in his typical accomplished style he brought the
ball out and sent Aidan away who found Joel in space. His pass left
Eddie chasing the ball with the keeper closing in at the same time.
Eddie got to the ball first but the keepers momentum meant that Eddie
was upended and a free kick was awarded 20 yards from goal. Eddie
picked himself up and limped into position. Joel stood over the ball
his eyes focused spaghetti western style on his target. He stepped
forward and his shot cannoned off a defenders head and when it came
down Mark was there to nonchalantly glance the ball into the far
corner - 2-0 David Coleman!
A well earned but hard
fought win against a very good Woodley side who showed plenty of
effort and great resilience in defence. The scene is now set for
another nail biting encounter next Sunday as second in the table Jets
take on the leaders Windsor.
Man of
the Match - Eddie
