12/09/09 - Pinewood Predators
2-5 Binfield Rockets
A thrilling first day encounter
that saw The Rockets up against The Predators. The game started at
break neck speed with the ball flowing freely up and down the pitch,
though for the most part the game was played in their half.
The first real break of the match came our way when Lewis
slammed the ball against the crossbar allowing them to break
and fire in a shot of their own which this time came back off of
Harvey's post.
It was end to end stuff but we came out with the first goal courtesy
of Lewis. Goals came thick and fast after that with Robert scoring
on his Rockets debut Lewis adding another and Joe netting twice
one of which must be a contender for goal of the season. It was a
shame the half had to end. A mention has to be given to Alfie
and Greg in defence keeping a clean sheet in the first half with a
solid performance.
The second half was a lot of the same the ball flowing back and
forth but with the luck going their way this time two goals from
positions where we should have cleared the ball but didn't let
them back into the game a little. We regrouped held our nerve and
saw out the game comfortably.
Well done
Rockets!

Binfield Rockets 0-6 Henley Hotspurs
The game was played at
a really fast pace with Henley having the better of the first half
by far. It was quite obvious that they are heading up the divisions.
With sixteen shots on goal for them in the first half Binfield
did really well to keep the score to 4-0 at half time.
The second half came
and the game evened up with Binfield making more of a fight of it.
Shots were fewer for both teams in this half around four or five
each. Both teams went forward well, looking to score at every
opportunity but it was Henley that broke the second half deadlock
with five minutes to go despite excellent attempts at goal from
Lewis and Joe.
The last goal came for
Henley from fortunate circumstances Binfield's defence believing
wrongly the ball to have gone dead behind the goal line were
surprised to see the ball played back into the area for an easy
dispatch.

3/10/09 - Plate match
To set the scene –
this was a Plate match against a strong team from 2 divisions above
the Rockets. The manager’s instructions: do your best and enjoy
yourselves. And boy, did they do both with plenty of effort! The
score line simply doesn’t reflect what a great game this was and
how close the match play actually was. Had this been a normal league
game, the score may well have been reversed.
The Rockets started with the right attacking attitude and
immediately took the game to the opposition and after just a few
minutes Andrew and Lewis worked together to get the first attempt on
goal and just a few minutes later, Lewis was facing just the goal
keeper – unfortunately neither attempt saw the ball reach the net.
Meanwhile at the other end, Alfie and James M were having a cracking
time in defence, although on the 3 occasions the attackers managed
to break through, Robert was there to perform 3 great saves.
After 10 minutes,
Harvey
came on to replace Andrew, and again, the attack was immediate
although moments later James M was forced to make a great clearance
from our area.
They say that every
great game includes some controversy, and this one’s came in
minute 13 when a shot at goal from the opposition gave one our
defenders no time to react and the ball struck his hand. A penalty.
And somehow, after a goalmouth scuffle just a minute or so later, we
were suddenly 2 down. Robert made a series of excellent saves and 45
seconds past 20 minutes, a break past our defence managed to secure
the third goal.
Into the second half and we were back finishing with another
shot on goal by Lewis which required a great save from the
goalkeeper, to be followed 2 minutes later by another strong strike.
For this half, our Goalkeeper had changed to
Harvey
who pulled off some truly magnificent aerial saves and that was only
when the attack had managed to get past James M, James S and Greg.
All this hard work looked like it was to pay off when Robert had a
shot which just tipped into the side net. Unfortunately, this seemed
to spur the opposition on and they immediately caught us on the hop
to make it 4-0. Not deterred and with not a single head dropping, we
battled on but began to loose shape a little and allow their attack
to break through unchallenged. An easy goal made it 5-0, but nobody
would have guessed, as the Rockets came back again with just as much
determination, culminating with an attack from Robert and Joe ending
in a near miss. Just before the whistle, a good shot from
Bracknell
saw to a final score of 6-0.
The score line simply
failed to reflect what an exciting game this had been and how well
the Rockets had played. Another effort like this against a team in
our own division cannot fail to end in a positive result for
Binfield.
Well
done Rockets.

- Finchampstead Da Gama 1 v 6 Binfield Rockets
We all arrived at the
Finchampstead ground at 8.40 in the morning a little apprehensive
because the last time we played this team we were beaten quite
convincingly. However, the rain clouds were dissipating, the pitch
looked great, the boys were warming up well, Harvey had gloves this
week and even bacon rolls were being served at the club house; a
feeling of optimism was starting to develop.
The boys kicked off
positively, immediately putting pressure on Finchampstead’s
defence. The passing and movement between Lewis, James S, Robert and
Joe in the first five minutes was truly impressive and Finchampstead
found it difficult to make any real impression on the game. When
they did push forward the ball was quickly won back by the
persistence of Greg’s tackling and the length and accuracy of
Alfie’s defensive kicks. On the odd occasion that the ball did
reach Harvey he quickly smothered the ball and booted it back up
field at least as far as the half way line on most occasions.
It only seemed a matter of time before the Rockets scored and
after about five minutes a lovely flowing movement of passes between
Lewis and Robert provided Joe with an opportunity on goal. Joe
collected the ball on the right, struck it with some pace and it
flew across the goal low into the left hand corner.
The boys maintained
their positions very well and further determined tackling and
accurate passing soon provided a second opportunity on goal. This
time Joe picked up the ball, dribbled round a defender and shot high
into the back of Finchampstead’s net. Lewis followed this up with
a third goal hit so powerfully with his left foot that it almost
ripped the back of the net. James S worked extremely hard up front
and was unlucky not to add to this tally.
Andrew and James M then came on for Greg and Alfie who had
both made a very solid and reliable defensive contribution to the
game so far. Andrew and James M immediately became immersed in the
game with James making some vital tackles and clearances whilst
Andrew played slightly in front winning the ball with avid
determination and coolly distributing to other team members to build
up more attacks. Robert was working extremely effectively covering
every inch of the pitch and his hard work was rewarded with a fourth
goal just before half time.
In the second half Lewis played the first ten minutes in goal
and Thomas came on in midfield. Thomas immediately set about
establishing control in the centre and displayed great determination
to win the ball and knock it forward to the attackers. This linking
play, with Andrew also now playing in midfield, set up the fifth
goal for Joe.
Greg then took over the goalkeeping from Lewis and made some
excellent blocks from Finchampstead’s attackers who were starting
to pick up their game and put some pressure on our defenders. James
M and Andrew continued to make some excellent clearances but in the
end Finchampstead were rewarded with a goal that was hit very
powerfully into the net despite Greg’s valiant attempt to keep it
out.
The Rockets were determined to finish the game in style and a
powerful attack from Thomas, Lewis and Robert resulted in a sixth
goal from a determined Harvey.
The end result was six goals for Binfield to one goal for
Finchampstead. This was a well deserved win for the Rockets because
every player on the pitch worked hard for each other, kept position
and never lost concentration.
Well
done Rockets.

- Crusader Knights 2 v 1 Binfield Rockets
If we break it down
into two halves, although we lost the first half by 2 goals we
competed just as hard as they did and were unlucky to not go in
level.
But in the second half we out performed them all over the pitch and
winning 1-0 could have easily been more.
Mika for his first game in goal performed really well in the first
half pulling off some great saves smothering the ball well and
looking very confident. In the second half with hardly anything to
do he still stayed sharp.
Alfie once again put in a solid dependable performance with some
great interceptions and clearances.
Greg read the ball well and kept their forward line very quiet
making clever use of guiding their forwards to the sidelines and not
allowing them to come inside.
Greg and Alfie and both are playing clearances into the middle of
the park more often and only conceding throw in's when nessary.
Lewis played well in the middle of the park his clever use of the
ball created opportunities for the other attackers to run onto. The
more we can keep the opposition in there half the more goals we're
score as we proved in the second half creating many chances one of
which Lewis put away confidently.
Harv had a very strong game in the first and second half putting in
some tremendous tackles and using the touchline to release the ball
for the second phase of attack. He did a good job of getting forward
too, finding himself in their penalty area more than once.
Jonny made some very commanding runs down the line and through the
middle running himself into the ground, his linking play with Lewis
and Ben really started to show in the second half helping us create
many chances.
Ben played with immense heart coupled with fantastic speed. He used
this to great effect for us when attacking. He also worked
tirelessly in defence, his best contribution by far is his ability
to deliver the final cross.
Thomas - other rock solid 20 minutes display which is what we aimed
for at the beginning of the season and he is now starting to deliver
the goods week in week out. Relentless in his tackling and is now
starting to improve his attacking game also.
Mosser - asked James to stand up and be counted and yet again
everything I asked James delivers. Solid at the back, he makes good
use of the ball when given time and makes good decisions when under
pressure.
Max - very professional display from Max showing great awareness
with his defence and giving us the ability to break quickly with
accurate passing we created several counter attack opportunities.
Sibs - I truly believe there is even more great stuff to come from
this little warrior. In yet another tireless display his motivation
and drive gave every one else around him a lift and
encourages them to push a little harder. His work on and off the
ball will surely lead to more praise for his performances and I feel
the goals will come.
Once again guys a tremendous game especially your abilities to gel
as a team and grow stronger and stronger as the match progressed.
Well
played

28/11/09
- Binfield Rockets 3 v 0 Ascot Saints
I thought that in a
game where luck didn't go our way 3-0 was a convincing win. We did a
lot of the simple things right and this led to us being able to show
what we can do as a footballing side as well as a battling side. We
have started to link together well now. I see players all over the
pitch looking for a pass before letting the ball go. I
see players who refuse to give up the ball cheaply (even when I am
saying "get rid") who believe that they CAN beat
players before passing to give their team mates a better
opportunity. I also see a belief developing that anyone can score in
our team this was shown in the fact everyone in our attack had
a shot on goal.
So starting with goals: James S, worked himself into the
ground and the results are now showing, he is making more and more
intelligent runs getting into the box more when asked to play
as striker and knowing where his strength at set pieces are is
definitely a plus, His harrying of the keeper created the opportunity
for his goal which he took with a very cool head. He is also
making a conscious effort to hold his position and not play everyone
else's.
Lewis: Played a solid ten minutes in the first half he was
involved with a lot of what we were doing in attack. He is also
learning the importance of just tracking back, I know that the way
we play football going forward is very high tempo and the midfield
three really have to cover a lot of ground backwards and forwards
but I can't emphasise enough the importance of just jogging back.
Lewis and the rest of midfield did this for us and the rewards were
obvious I counted more than three times where our defence were
able to use returning midfield players as a foundation for an
attack. All this and still had time to contribute with two goals.
Harvey: not much to do in goal this week but what he did do
he did with his usual steady calmness. This goes along way towards
settling the rest of the team. Harvey's real input in this match was
in the second half where he played a central mid field and right mid
field dominating both areas and creating a real threat to their
defence. His ability to defend was also well tested and he broke
many attacks before they could even get started.
He also had a cracking effort at goal which was deflected wide.
Alfie: His review this week for me is simple. One of the
other parents came up to me after the match and likened Alfie's
performance to the great Franco Baresi, which makes me a very proud
Dad and coach!!!!!
James M: One solid performance on top of another. James is
going from strength to strength in this position, which is evident
in his coolness of head and ability to read the game. I lost count
of the amount of important tackles James won and what impressed most
was that after winning the ball he always looked to give the ball to
our player and made some great turn around passes.
Greg: A terrific game as first attacker. He is really coming
into this position and it won't be long before he steps up to
central mid field as well. In fact I don't think there is a position
Greg can't play because if giving a master class in defending wasn't
enough he looks completely at home in the second half as our goal
keeper.
"Tackler" Thomas: The name says it all!!!!! From a
boy who wouldn't go near the ball to a terrier that believes nobody
else should have the ball. He cemented out position in the second
half with a really sound performance. Always making the centre of
the field the more difficult route for their attack this pushed our
opponents to the side and at time stopped them dead in their tracks.
A real coming of age.
Joe: We all know how good Joe is in attack and he proved
this yet again with some great forward running that caused havoc
amongst their defence and always kept their mid field on the back
foot. He constantly bombarded their area with high quality crosses
and can rightly lay claim to at least one assist but i thought his
real contribution was in his defending. Although he defended well
throughout the game one tackle needs to be mentioned coming off the
back of a full length of the field run to snuff out an attack in our
area.
Andrew: Came on for the last 10 minutes of the 1st half and
almost instantly made an impression with a shot that would have been
goal of the season had it gone in. This shows real belief from
Andrew in himself and his team. For many weeks now he has been
putting in tremendous performances as a defence mid fielder but I
thought his attitude towards attack was a real turning of the tied
and I look forward to seeing more of the attacking Andrew in future
matches.
Robert: Always reliable to lead by example. Roberts displays
over recent matches have really set the bar for the rest of the team
and has defiantly bought a new dynamic to the Rockets. His energy
and drive helped keep the ball in the oppositions half for most of
the match, I don't think their was a parent watching who wasn't
willing the ball to be the other side of the post because a display
like that truly merited a goal to cap it.
Last
thoughts: I'd just like to say how really proud I am of you all. You
are all working really hard as individuals but most importantly you
are coming together as a GREAT team.

- California 4 v 2 Binfield Rockets
Kez:
I thought for the
first time out in nearly two months this was a promising display. We
were a little rusty in places, but some of the interlinking play
taking us from defence to attack was really impressive. We kept
pressure on their defence for large periods of the game and caused
real problems for them, with constant shots at goal and
multiple well taken corners. These are phases of play that
would have really stretched us a year ago, but on Saturday we
showed how much we had learned by breaking their play at
crucial points (from the goal kick, attacking their defender
making him go wide or turn and predicting where the ball would go)
on another day these breakaways would have resulted in goals and
that would have been great, but remember this "A
year ago they would not have automatically resulted in a shot" on
Saturday they all resulted in a shot and these shots were coming
from all over the park, this shows us that we have strikers all the
way through this side. So remember it doesn't matter what
position your playing in if you find yourself through on goal and it
looks good "Have a go"
Everyone put a tremendous amount of effort for this game and I
know there were some very tired les out there but long may it
continue, remember to keep encouraging each other and keep being
positive because the more you tell your pals that their doing good
the more your going to hear it about yourself and you
all can take it from me, you're doing great!

Binfield Rockets 2 v 0 Finchampstead de Gamma
After
a two week break the boys looked pumped up. The morning was parky
with a bitter wind making it feel even colder.
The boys warmed
up well before the match which was needed considering the
temperature was near zero. We had a full team with the luxury of two
reserves while Finch could only put out seven. Also rumours spread
fast that their main goal keeper was out of the line-up. Binfield
sniffed a win in the air.
The first half
started promisingly for both teams and possession was equal with the
closer of chances falling to Binfield. The whole team played with
purpose building well from the back. James
Sibley, who
played in goal first half commanded a solid performance (as ever)
and made some keys saves which kept us in the game. Alfie
held his
position wonderfully in defence ensuring that their pocket
striker was never going to penetrate us. Alfie
and Andrew made
many solid interceptions which allowed us to counter attack on many
an occasion.
Greg
supported in defence and showed us all how he has really developed
over the season to become a solid and reliable defender. He was
aware of everything around him and vary rarely did a Finch player
get passed him, which showed as both Alfie
and Greg kept
Finch at bay with few shots for James
Sibley to
worry about. Even on the rare occasion that Finch did slip through James
pulled off
some Shilton like saves of the 80’s (Dad will have to explain
Shilton’s greatness).
Both Robert
and Harvey
in midfield got stuck in from the off and I would say that we
controlled the first half convincingly due to the fact that Robert
was chasing every ball in sight and Harvey
followed up on any loose ball ensuring that we were always on the
attack. Harvey
capped his first half off with a few chances on goal, one in
particular shaving the post.
Joe
had a great first half tackling with his heart on his chest and
making sure that each 50-50 ball in sight was to be won by him. As
ever Joe worked
his socks off and tackled with intent. Lewis
also played with a great air of confidence and between the two of
them there were some neat one touch exchanges that opened up wave
after wave of attack.
The half time whistle
blew and at 0-0 we still had a good feeling that Binfield had enough
in the tank to sneak a winner in the second half.
On came James
Moss and Andrew
to give our first half players a well earned rest. The second half
was a different half altogether as Kez decided to move Sibs
into midfield
and tuck Greg
into goal. We dominated the second half with Greg
not having to make a save due to a well guarded defence of Andrew
and Mosser.
Andrew
sat just in front of James
M and ensured
that every Finch attack was snubbed out. On the very rare occasion
that they got through Andrew,
James M
mopped up and cleared the line with ease.
Binfield were
fluid in all their attacks with Lewis working well with Joe,
Sibs and Harvey
allowing us to take a early lead.
Lewis
finished in
his usual critical fashion, but without allowing us to think that
the game was over we continued to push forward with terrific link up
work between Robert,
Joe, Lewis and
Sibs.
This rewarded us well in the latter parts of the second half as Harvey
squeezed a ball down the wing which was leapt on by Sibs
and before we could blink Lewis
has scored yet again with a sweet strike.
And that’s how
it ended, 2-0 to Binfield after a great team effort from all
players. ‘’
Well
done lads!

- Binfield Rockets 2 - 2 Pinewood Predators
A crisp winter's
Saturday morning starting with drama and potential anguish, deftly
side stepped by the ever diplomatic Rockets management, led to
a score-line which belies the effort shown by a depleted team of
just seven.
With the danger of
complacency after the two team’s last meeting leading to a 5-1 win
for the Rockets, the boys took to the field with gusto and the
determination to mark their authority over the competition.
Sometimes no matter
how well a team plays the results don't always go in their
favour and this was the case for the Rockets on Saturday but there
were a large of number of positives to be taken from the game,
namely the chances created, the willingness of individual players to
step into positions outside of their comfort zone and the sheer
effort shown by each player.
Coach Kez
Pincott said of the teams performance “I
would just like to let you know how proud I am of you all for all
the effort and commitment you show on every match especially this
one as there were no subs and as even the coach I forget how hard it
is to run for 40 minutes let alone kicking a ball at the same time,
changing direction constantly and being part of a team also.
Excellent job! Keep it coming”
If the
Rockets continue playing the kind of football they did they will
progress individually & collectively, the goals will continue to
come and they have a very real chance of winning the league. To coin
a phrase; they are "playing
like rockets!"

13/03/10
- Ascot Saints 3 v 3 Binfield Rockets
A welcome improvement
in the weather sees the Rockets away at local rivals Ascot. The
Rockets dominated the early exchanges, creating several chances with
good early efforts from Joe and James S plus a shot against the post
from Lewis. The deadlock was finally broken after ten minutes by a
fine left foot shot from Lewis giving the Rockets a deserved early
lead.
Ascot rallied soon after falling behind and started to create
chances of their own, eventually drawing level. Despite a fine save
from Harvey in the Rocket's goal Ascot managed a second goal before
the half time break.
The Rockets started the second half with Robert replacing
Harvey in goal. Unfortunately, despite the rallying half time team
talk from Kez Ascot scored a third goal to take a two goal lead.
This seemed to spur on the Rockets further and once again they
started to create opportunities in front of goal with Joe hitting
the post with a fine effort. Eventually the pressure paid dividends
with Joe scoring a well deserved second goal for Binfield.
A further change in formation sees Thomas replacing Robert in
goal. The match continued with plenty of end to end action, both
teams creating chances and forcing saves from the opposition's
goalkeeper. A second goal for Joe in the closing minutes sees
Binfield draw level.
Both teams continued to press for the victory, the final
action of the game being a brave defensive block by Robert,
resulting in an unfortunate injury.
Another excellent team performance by the Rockets that showed
great character to fight back from a two goal deficit to earn a
draw. The progress made this year has been spectacular, with all the
players showing great awareness for the game. A draw now seems
disappointing but overall probably a fair result in this particular
encounter.

20/03/10
- Binfield Rockets 1 v 3 Sandhurst Strikers
The Rockets took to
the field knowing that they had a battle on their hands, given
Sandhurst
’s top of the table position and excellent goal scoring record. In
fact it was Binfield who had the better of the early exchanges, with
Joe providing an excellent cross from the right which narrowly
eluded the on-rushing Binfield attackers.
Gradually,
Sandhurst
began to show their pedigree with some excellent passing and
movement and were only kept at bay thanks to some excellent
defending by Alfie and Greg, ably assisted by James Sibley and
Robert, chasing back.
Harvey
in goal proved very reliable in blocking goal bound shots and on one
occasion, tipping over the bar in spectacular fashion. Despite
creating some excellent chances,
Sandhurst
failed to press home their advantage, encouraging the Rockets to
come forward again in numbers to test the visitors' defence. Joe,
Lewis, Robert and James Sibley all figured prominently, as the
Rockets probed for an opening. By a combination of luck and good
defending, they were denied the goal their efforts deserved. The
half ended at 0-0 following an excellent shot by Robert which the
keeper managed to parry to safety.
The second
half was equally even, with both sides making commendable efforts to
pass the ball on a heavy pitch. The Rockets needed their two
defenders, Thomas and James Moss, to be on top form and once again
they did not disappoint. Thomas’ determined tackling and excellent
clearances by James frustrated the
Sandhurst
attackers. The dull morning was then lit up by an absolute screamer
of a shot by Robert towards the top corner, which was saved by a
combination of keeper and cross-bar. If ever an effort deserved a
goal, it was that one! But not to be denied, Robert combined
intelligently with Lewis on the right to produce a near post shot
which squirmed under the keeper into the
Sandhurst
net. 1-0 Binfield!
Unfortunately, Sandhurst were then stung into action and came back
in determined fashion to force an equaliser after a good passing
move which left Greg in goal with no chance.
Sandhurst
’s superior strength in numbers was beginning to tell on the heavy
pitch, as their substitutes came more into the game, forcing
Binfield to defend with increasing desperation. As legs and minds
tired towards the end of the half,
Sandhurst
rattled in a further two goals to run out deserved 3-1 winners. But
all credit to the Rockets for a strong showing against the best team
in the league, who were outplayed for long periods in the game and,
at one stage, looked like they might be beaten.

Windsor 7 vs 1 Rockets
Unfortunately, this
match was a little reminiscent of those from seasons past when the
opposition had a few key players who controlled the game, meaning
that the team as a whole perhaps belonged in a different division.
But the spectators
didn't see a single head drop and the lads continued right to the
end with great team and individual spirit. In fact in the second
half there were more attacks on the Windsor goal than in the first,
one of which resulted in a great team effort consisting of a couple
of passes and a goal from Sibs!
So for a better
picture of the effort and enjoyment of the day, don't look at the
score, look HERE!
