First Team Result:1st September - Binfield 1-2 Bisley Sports

This was always going to be a tough game for Binfield with Bisley now using the Farnborough Town Reserve side as their 1st team.

Both sides started brightly with Bisley looking technically very good and Binfield full of passion and good passing. However the Bisley keeper was the busier of the two. Martin Hutt back in goal for Binfield had only one shot to worry about in the first half. Callum Whitty, Matt Davis and Richard Mills all had chances before Mills broke the deadlock on 28 minutes, taking the ball into the area and slotting it past the advancing keeper.

Bisley attempted to hit back but Binfield were on a roll and should have made more of this period of domination. Fenton and Day playing in the wide positions were playing well and at the back Callaway and Davis were kept busy. Significantly Bisley were controlling the central area and limited Binfield’s chances. 1-0 at half time promised a storming second half.

Two events in the second half altered the course of the game. Mills lasted only a minute of the second period suffering from a back injury late in the first half. Ryan Milward deputised and immediately caused problems for Bisley but the balance wasn’t quite the same and Bisley became more of an attacking threat particularly down their left. However when on 65 minutes Fenton received a red card for inappropriate language it gave Bisley a real chance and they took it getting a deserved equaliser 14 minutes later when a cross eluded Hutt and was headed back across goal for a simple tap in. 1-1.

A draw looked like the fair result but the referee was to determine otherwise. Deep into added time Hutt was clearly fouled taking a cross and the ball dropped for Bisley to blast in. The referee appeared to be signalling the foul but as Bisley’s celebrations became even more boisterous he clearly changed his mind. His performance surprised and frustrated both sides in each half and ultimately affected both the mood and the result.
